ASL in the Raw - Same But Different

A blend of skits, sketches, storytelling, film and guest stars, Doug and Jason are breaking ground for the Deaf community!

ADVANCE TICKETS - $15
DAY OF SHOW TICKETS - $20

Hosts Jason Norman and Doug Ridloff break ground for the Deaf community by blending skits, character sketches, storytelling, and guest stars in their production of ASL in the Raw.

Performed in American Sign Language (“ASL”), there will be an interpreter provided for the hearing and a post-show DJ to spin the good vibrations.

Doug Ridloff is a nice Jewish boy gone blue. Born and raised in Queens, Doug’s early dirty encounters involved only the soil and grass in his backyard. After earning a B.A. in Physical Education and a M.A. in Special Education, he went out and saw the world and some more dirt-Central America, Europe, and Asia. Doug saw that there was a universal sense of humor: body language and gestures about sex. He began a new collection of “blue” jokes and stories to shake up the Deaf community.

Jason Norman is a D.C. native and a NYC convert, bringing you the raw and naughty flavors of both worlds. For over three years now, Jason has hosted the monthly ASL Poetry and Storytelling at the Bowery Poetry Club on the Lower East Side. For far too long, American Sign Language on the stage has been “clean and safe.” Inspired by classic comedians back in the day like Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, and Andrew Dice Clay, Jason realized it was time to penetrate the boundaries of ASL and get down and dirty.

In 2005, Doug and Jason teamed up and hunkered down to create the first production of ASL Raw. Co-producers, co-directors, and co-performers of the show, they are very proud to present their third production of ASL Raw at Comix. By using a blend of skits, character sketches, storytelling, film and guest stars, Doug and Jason are breaking ground for the Deaf community. Ultimately they want you to go home happy and horny.
